"Dogbone" Ultralight Bear Bag Toggle (PCT Method)

Just back from 6 nights on northern New Hampshire’s Conos Trail. Needed to bear hang my food on multiple nights when a bear box was not available. The dog bone did what it is supposed to do. Easy to use and a perfect PCT hang is the result. Virtually weightless, inexpensive and effective. I do suggest that you practice at home so you understand how to use i5 before going in to the field.

love the dog bone bear toggle! a real game changer, especially in the cold or wet when fingers are not working well.

The "dog bone" toggle is awesome. This is a great addition to my bear hang kit. This makes it simple to hang the bag with no fuss. This is especially nice after a long day of hiking and having one less thing to worry about.

The Dogbone is a great lightweight tool to hang up your food bag without having to remember knots. If you like to hang your food bag I recommend using it.

I got the small dogbone for my PCT bearbag hanging kit because I've had a stick break in the past, putting my food on the ground sometime during the night. It has negligible weight and fits into the rock sack easily. The medium D50T water resistant battery roll top bag gives me extra confidence that my batteries will not get wet if I am clumsier than usual during a stream crossing. :-) Thank you Hilltop Packs for your usual high quality products and quick delivery.

Recently bought the bear bag toggle and took it on a trip at the end of September. It made securing our bear bags a breeze, I used it for both of our bear bags btw. I highly recommend getting their rope with it which glides nicely over branches. If I lose this one I will definitely be buying another one lol.

Super easy to use!

Very small and barely moves the scale. Stays on the loop of my Hilltop Bear Bag. Easier than the wrist twist and pull through method, and you don't have to look for a stick.

Took a hike and used the dog bone to hang my food bag using the dog bone. Easy to use lightweight and does the job.

Weight almost nothing and makes hanging your food bag easy!

I purchased the large Ecco bag. Plenty of room, easy to hang and highly visible (I purchased the lime Green Bag). Would recommend!!

I purchased the small Dogbone; more out of curiosity than an expectation it would be better than using a stick in the woods. I was pleasantly surprised, though. Weighing less than a nickel (3g on my scale) and being made from aluminum, the Dogbone is much stronger than a stick, weighs little to nothing, is easier to use than a stick (IMO), and conveniently clips onto my throw bag's D-ring so I don't have to go hunting for it in my backpack. Sure, I can save 3g if I hunt for a stick in the woods each day and then struggle with a Clove Hitch but why? For something that weighs closer to 0 oz than 1 oz, I'd rather use the Dogbone.

Perfect for the PCT hang, no more knots to tie and untie and no more broken sticks.

Very easy way to hang your food. Bought the small to use with a small carabiner, and now I've ordered the large as well for hanging multiple food bags together on a larger carabiner.

I did buy the small dog bone, but it would slip through with a slight jiggle. So, I bought the Large Dog Bone which I highly recommend instead of the small size. Anyway, I am able to hang my bear bag so much easier without using a knot. Awesome hardware!!
